Tax-Free Childcare - what you should have received

HMRC will be contacting all childcare providers in Scotland by letter and/or email inviting them to sign up to the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme.

Tax-free Childcare is a new government scheme to help working parents with the cost of childcare, and will replace childcare vouchers.

Top things childminders need to know about Tax-Free Childcare

The letter from HMRC contains a unique user ID that you will need to sign up to the scheme.  You will also need to provide: 

  • your bank account details (the account you'll use to receive payments from parents)
  • your 10 -digits Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number. (You'll find this on any HMRC communications, e.g. your tax statement)

If (by the end of October) you haven't received or have lost your sign up letter, please contact the HMRC Childcare Service Helpline on 0300 123 4097.
