Scottish Government to host Childminding Summit for local authorities

The Scottish Government is hosting a Childminding Summit for local authorities on 27 March 2019 in Stirling.

Childminders have an important role to play in delivering funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC), particularly for our younger children, and the Scottish Government is working with SCMA and local authorities to increase the role of childminders in delivering children's entitlement.

In partnership with SCMA, the Scottish Government is committed to hosting a Childminding Summit for local authorities to identify actions to ensure parents understand the potential benefits of accessing all or part of their child's ELC entitlement from a childminding service.  Topics for discussion include:

  • Commissioning practices/Scotland Excel guidance
  • National Standard (Funding Follows the Child approach)
  • Under Three’s
  • Qualification/accreditation requirements
  • Parents/families

Following the Childminding Summit, a future Partnership Forum featuring childminding is to be scheduled for the autumn and is due to be held on a Saturday.  This interactive event will be open to childminders and local authorities, who will be given the opportunity to share good practice examples.  SCMA will provide further information to childminders when available.
