SCMA partner with St Andrew’s First Aid to offer first aid training

To enable SCMA to offer national, comprehensive and affordable First Aid training options to our members we have formed a new partnership with St Andrew’s First Aid (SAFA). Together we are now offering members ‘Baby and Child First Aid’ and ‘Paediatric First Aid’ courses.

Commenting on the partnership Janine Ryan, Head of Childminding Services with SCMA said: “A knowledge of first aid is so important to our members and we are delighted to be now working in partnership with one of the UK's leading organisations for promoting First Aid standards. The courses we are offering specifically relate to children and follow a competency-based assessment process, with learners assessed throughout their course. On successful completion learners will receive a copy of the excellent First Aid Manual, ‘Associate Membership’ first aid insurance and a Certificate which is valid for three years.”

‘Baby and Child First Aid’ is a one-day (six hours) course which can be completed at the weekend at a variety of locations across Scotland, including Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Glenrothes, Inverness and Stirling.  This course, designed to provide training for childminders who wish to gain some first aid training and a knowledge of what to do in an emergency, is a more affordable option for SCMA members at a cost of £78 (inclusive of VAT) and includes a copy of the First Aid Manual worth £13.99, a Certificate which is valid for three years and ‘Associate Membership’ first aid insurance.

‘Paediatric First Aid’ is a two-day (12 hours) course classed as the gold standard in first aid training.  It is suitable for those who wish to acquire a greater, more in-depth knowledge of first aid training.  At a cost of £126 (inclusive of VAT) the course includes a copy of the First Aid Manual, a Certificate which is valid for three years and ‘Associate Membership’ first aid insurance.

Both courses provide an overview of a Defibrillator, or AED (Automated External Defibrillator) which is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

With regards to first aid insurance, SAFA is so confident that they provide all students with the appropriate skills to be competent first aiders that they are automatically included, free of charge, under their ‘Associate Membership Insurance’ cover when they successfully complete their course. This cover is effective as long as the candidate holds a valid St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd Certificate.

Every Trainer and Assessor with SAFA is professionally qualified and SQA certified. They offer an excellent learning experience each and every time someone attends one of their courses by making first aid fun and easy to learn. Students are provided with workbooks and materials of the highest quality and to suit a variety of learning abilities.
