Parent Club offers tips and ideas to make life easier

A new campaign to keep kids, busy, happy and healthy has been launched by Maree Todd, Minister for Children and Young People. Parent Club will help parents and carers of primary school aged children with ‘small wins’ to make their day easier and improve their child’s learning and diet.

It is a campaign, by the Scottish Government, to provide parents and carers with support throughout their child’s early life and beyond and provides a platform to share tried and tested tips and ideas from other parents that can fit into daily life.

Ms Todd launched the campaign with pupils from Lorne Street Primary in Govan and their parents. Moogety Foods, a healthy eating, cooking and community participation group, provided an interactive demo at the school, showing how simple it can be to make a healthy meal and get the kids involved, having fun and learning at the same time.

She said: “Our new campaign acknowledges that while parents and carers do a brilliant job, they do experience many challenges and pressures throughout their day and as kids get a bit older it can be challenging keeping them busy and entertained.

“It’s been great having Moogety Foods show just how simple and fun doing everyday things together can be. We know that parents are keen to provide a healthier diet for their families and we want to help with ideas for hassle free, cheap meals they can make and eat together.”

Abi Mordin, Project Coordinator at Moogety Foods said, “Making a healthy meal is a great way to bring lots of free activities together and keep the kids entertained. You can research a recipe, write it down, shop for the ingredients and then measure out the ingredients as you prepare it. It’s a small win.”

As part of the new campaign, a series of ‘small wins’ short films have been created featuring real parents and their kids sharing their own everyday challenges, top tips for keeping their kids busy, happy and healthy and sees them trying out some new Parent Club ideas.

The films will be shared on social media throughout the campaign to help parents and to encourage them to share their own tips. The national marketing campaign includes activity across TV, outdoor, press, radio and social media.
