Landmark UNCRC Legislation Incorporated into Law

Landmark UNCRC Legislation Incorporated into Law
Today (Tuesday 16 July 2024) we are celebrating a historic and landmark moment for children and young people across Scotland, as the UNCRC Act officially commences and is introduced into Scots Law.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 is a vital step to ensuring children and young people have their rights recognised and protected.

Children rights are already very much at the heart of all legislation, frameworks and guidance relating to the childcare sector, and UNCRC Act 2024 enshrines this further. For over ten years, children and young people have been calling for their human rights under the UNCRC to be made part of law in Scotland.

SCMA has actively supported the vital work in advocating for this landmark legislation, as we know how integral childminders are in supporting children of all ages to know and understand their rights, feel valued and respected, and ultimately find their voice.
