As you may be aware, the Scottish Government is taking forward extensive reforms in education, including the creation of a new qualifications body – Qualifications Scotland.
At this time, they are inviting enthusiastic, forward-thinking professionals to help SQA navigate the changes needed to shape the new organisation, while continuing to deliver for learners now.
The Public Appointment round for five new members of the SQA Board opened for applications on Tuesday 25 June, and we wanted to highlight this to childminders and our colleagues as you (or someone you know) may be interested in this opportunity.
The Scottish Government is welcoming applications from people from all walks of life to provide different perspectives on the Board. Applicants who are practising teachers or college lecturers, and those with change or finance management experience, are particularly welcomed.
Clare Hicks, the Director for Education Reform, said:
“This would be a fantastic opportunity at a great time, with the Board of SQA governing the organisation during the reform process, while also having a role in the establishment of Qualifications Scotland.”
“We would therefore be delighted if you can consider this upcoming opportunity and share it with your contacts, particularly those who you believe would be interested and possess skills that would fit this opportunity.”
While these appointments will be initially to SQA, new members are expected to join the inaugural Board of Qualifications Scotland when it is created, playing a key role in the delivery of the Scottish Government’s reform commitments now and in the years ahead.
Scottish Ministers are looking for applicants with experience of:
- Working in education: who can help the SQA to reset relationships and reconnect with educators and those in learning.
OR
- Financial management: who can help the SQA navigate the challenges of a complex financial climate.
OR
- Working in partnership to deliver change: who can inform and support the SQA as it is replaced by Qualifications Scotland.
