Education Scotland is pleased to invite childminders to a series of webinar sessions, designed for those working with children in their early years (from birth to the end of Primary 1).
ADDITIONAL PLACES NOW AVAILABLE DUE TO HIGH DEMAND: We’ve been advised by Education Scotland that capacity has been extended further to enable more childminders to attend. This means that if you’re interested, and may have missed out previously, you can now book to secure a place.
The online events are childminder-specific, and SCMA has been involved in developing the content alongside Education Scotland. Covering a range of topics, taking part and attending a webinar would be a positive addition to your on-going Continuing Professional Learning (CPL) – so remember to add it to your Learning Log.
Hosted by Education Scotland, three online sessions are available to book:
Session 1: Curriculum and Planning for Childminders
Date/Time: Wednesday 5 October at 18:45-19:45
The session aims to explore the Early Level Curriculum for Excellence in its widest sense, including how this links to planning in both a responsive and intentional way. We will also hear how a childminder engages with the curriculum and how this can be reflected on to ensure links are being made across the curriculum, with a focus on the interactions, experiences and the spaces you provide.

Session 2: Pedagogical Leadership for Childminders
Date/Time: Wednesday 26 October at 18:45-19:45
The session aims to take a deeper look at one of the themes in Realising the Ambition. We’ll look at what pedagogical leadership means to you as a childminder, how it looks in practice, and how it contributes to the quality of children’s experiences in your setting. It follows on from the 2021 Realising the Ambition overview session and the ‘Curriculum and Planning for Childminders’ session on 5 October but can also be viewed as a stand-alone session in its own right.

Session 3: Transitions Matter in Childminding Settings
Date/Time: Wednesday 2 November at 18:45-19:45
The session aims to take a deeper look at the theme of transition in Realising the Ambition. We’ll look at the transitions that young children and their families experience and how wellbeing (including learning and development) can be supported by considering the ‘5Cs’ of positive transitions. It follows on from the 2021 Realising the Ambition overview session, the ‘Curriculum and Planning for Childminders’ session on 5 October and the ‘Pedagogical Leadership’ session on 26 October but can also be viewed as a stand-alone session in its own right.
