Beep, Beep! Road Safety Week Approaching

Beep, Beep! Road Safety Week Approaching
Just around the corner Road Safety Week 2016 is approaching, coordinated annually by the charity Brake. The event takes place from 21-27 November and includes Beep Beep! Day on Wednesday 23 November 2016. Both are a great way to engage children with the road safety basics through fun activities, whilst raising awareness among parents and the wider community about protecting children on roads. They can involve fun road safety activities, from creating giant posters, to practising holding hands, to singing road safety songs and baking traffic light biscuits. The activities teach the basics of road safety and encourage consideration of the vital steps needed to keep their families safe.

Developing an understanding of road safety is part of the role of a childminder and to assist with this, SCMA organise Child Development CPD and e-Learning courses.  These courses explore how children learn and develop and help create an understanding of the role of the childminder in supporting children’s learning and development, which is crucial to achieving the best start in life for every child.  This is embedded within the GIRFEC framework and underpins the continual improvement of a childminding practice. Road Safety Week is the UK's biggest road safety event, involving thousands of schools, organisations and community groups every year and is the chance to promote life-saving messages. Set up in 1997, it aims to encourage grassroots action on road safety and raise awareness about the part we can all play in preventing tragedies and making roads safer. It gives everyone an opportunity to promote road safety in their community, school or workplace, as part of a big national event, and using guidance and resources from Brake.
