Autumn Bookbug Sessions for SCMA Childminder Members

Autumn Bookbug Sessions for SCMA Childminder Members
The Learn with SCMA team has collaborated with our colleagues at Bookbug to plan a series of FREE live online interactive sessions and a webinar, tailored specifically for childminders, and exclusive to SCMA members – where your minded children can get involved too!

We are asking SCMA members to ‘Save the Date’ for these sessions, which will take place online via Microsoft Teams in September, October and November this year. Members will receive an email invite in August, which will allow you to book your space on the sessions.

These sessions aim to support childminders and encourage the use of books, songs and stories as part of your practice – and enable your minded children to take advantage of the fun learning that Bookbug offers.

Bookbug for You and Your Mindees

The two planned live online 45-minute Bookbug sessions for childminders and children will focus on two important topics – being outdoors and expressing feelings – where the use of books, songs and stories helps encourage children to explore the environment around them and get in touch with their emotions and how they’re feeling.

These interactive sessions will include a Q&A with Bookbug, and an accompanying resource will also be available, via the Membership Dashboard, which outlines the benefits of Bookbug – particularly in relation to speech and language and emotional regulation – plus some recommend books that you may wish to take a look at.

  • Bookbug Online Interactive Session 1 (Being Outdoors): Tuesday 10 September at 10am
  • Bookbug Online Interactive Session 2 (Expressing Feelings): Thursday 10 October at 10am

Bookbug Especially for You

In addition to the two interactive Bookbug sessions centred around your minded children, SCMA will also host an additional one-hour webinar dedicated to you as a childminder.

  • Bookbug Webinar (Bookbug Theory and Resources): Wednesday 13 November at 6.45pm
In this webinar, we will explore the Bookbug app, and their song and rhyme library, and discover how these tools can be used within your setting. Plus, we’ll also look at the underlying theory behind Bookbug, which can also be shared with families, and will help complement your practice.

Keen to join us and get involved?

Don’t miss out on this excellent opportunity - save the date today! We’ll email SCMA members with full details on how to book in due course but for now, simply pop these dates in your diary, and we’ll be in touch soon.

Why should I attend these sessions?
Taking part in the live Bookbug sessions will not only help support the learning and development of your minded children – as they interact with the songs and stories from Bookbug – they will also provide you with additional an additional Continuous Professional Development (CPL) opportunity.

Remember to update your Learning Log on the Membership Dashboard once you have watched and participated in these sessions. This will allow you to log the time you have spent gaining new skills and knowledge and enable you to reflect on your learning and how you will incorporate it into your childminding practice.

Will the sessions be recorded?
Only part of each session will be recorded and published to the Membership Dashboard afterwards, so we strongly advise that you ‘Save the Date’ and join us live on the day to benefit from the full, interactive experience.

It will be a great opportunity to join together with fellow childminders and mindees across the country, to share top tips and experiences – plus our Bookbug and SCMA hosts will be happy to take questions on the day.
